December 16

Attended a science lecture on the penguin populations. As the climate warms, the penguin populations of northern colonies are shrinking while the more southern colonies are getting larger. At the end of the science lecture we were shown a NSF DVD on the topic. The DVD is available for the cost of shipping & handling from penguinscience.com.

so, what's the conclusion of the penguin population change? Good, okay, a terrible thing or we don't know yet?

Colonies that have been at the same place forever and having to move because the location isn't any good anymore because of changes due to weather. They have really bad years for the years it takes them to realize it's time to move. They'll be able to keep heading south for a while longer. One of the things that the movie points out is the penguins are having to see weather like they've never seen before and the instincts just have developed to cope with such things.

The DVD was quality.
